Legacy modernization

Assessment first. Then a sprint with one goal you can check.

Most aging web apps do not need a rewrite. They need someone to read the code, say what is risky, and move it to a supported version in steps small enough to reverse.

Modernization Assessment

Starts at $2,500 / 1 to 2 weeks

We read the code, run what can be run, and map the dependencies, the test gaps and the deploy path. You get a written roadmap: the risks, a staged plan, and a fixed quote for the sprint. If you go ahead with the sprint, the assessment fee is credited against it.

  • Risk register covering versions, security exposure and test gaps
  • A staged upgrade plan with a defined version target
  • A fixed quote for the sprint, in writing
  • Fee credited against the sprint if you proceed
  • Refund guarantee if we do not deliver the roadmap

The guarantee

If we do not deliver the written roadmap described in the scope, you get the assessment fee back. If you go on to an Upgrade Sprint, the fee is credited against it.

Upgrade Sprint

Quote-based / 2 to 6 weeks

A sprint has one goal you can check, for example moving a Next.js 13 or 14 app to 16, or a Django app onto a supported release. Tests go in first so we can prove behavior did not change. Then the upgrade lands in small steps, with a rollback plan ready before anything ships.

01

Pin the target

We agree on one version target you can verify, such as Next.js 16 or a supported Django release, and what is out of scope.

02

Tests first

Before changing anything we add tests around the behavior that matters, so every later step can be checked against how the app works today.

03

Upgrade in small steps

Dependencies and framework versions move one controlled step at a time. Each step builds, passes the tests, and could ship on its own.

04

Rollback and handoff

You get a written rollback plan and docs your team can follow. Then the code is yours to carry on with, with or without us.

Where we work

Next.js and React on the front end, Python with Flask or Django on the back end. A typical target is moving a Next.js 13 or 14 application to 16, but the same method applies to a Django or Flask app that has fallen behind a supported release. We read the code before we promise anything.

What we will not do

  • Promise a rewrite will be painless or quick
  • Quote a sprint before we have read the code
  • Hold your code or logins as leverage
  • Claim depth in stacks we do not work in, such as COBOL, mainframes or Salesforce
  • Invent clients, logos or testimonials. We are a new firm.
